Hi! I’m Lynn, and I believe that we’re never too old to be kids. I also believe that kids discover who they truly are through imaginative play. But children’s imagination must be sparked and nurtured through the images and stories they are surrounded by.

And that’s where I come in. I like to create adorable art and decor that will delight and inspire kids at any age.

13 Amazing Nursery Styles for Your Baby Room

13 Amazing Nursery Styles for Your Baby Room

Amazing Nursery Styles

As a new parent, you may be wondering how to set up your nursery. You want it to be functional and safe for your baby, but also beautiful and comfortable for you. What color should you paint the walls? What kind of furniture do you need? And what can you do with all those extra clothes and toys that don’t fit in the tiny closet? These may sound like small or even trivial things to stress over, but recent studies show that nursery designs are increasingly fraught with social intrigue and are playing a critical role in the amount of cultural capital  parents can hope to amass. In fact, some parents are spending upto $100k to design their little one’s nursery.

And we can add one more question to add to the list: Which nursery style do I choose? When it comes to decorating your baby’s room, there are many different nursery styles out there (and more every day). Some people like classic nurseries decorated in soft pastels or gender-neutral nurseries that will grow with their child for years to come. Others prefer whimsical nurseries full of fun surprises or modern nurseries with bold patterns and minimalist lines. There are so many general home decorating styles, it's difficult to know which would translate well into a nursery. And when you do finally select a style, it’s often difficult to know where to draw the line–how much is too much? How far into a theme should you go? How childlike or whimsical should your artwork be? Should you include illustration in your nursery or go with fine art

In this article we’ll explore some common nursery themes so that whether it is classic or modern or anything else–if one theme speaks to you–read on!

Classic Nursery

A classic nursery is a timeless style. If you're looking for a nursery that's not going to go out of style anytime soon, this is the way to go. A classic nursery can be characterized by its use of natural wood, light and airy fabrics like white muslin or cotton voile, and neutral bedding such as white sheets and blankets.

The key here is simplicity: if you want your child's space to feel upscale without being overly ornate or overly embellished with patterns or colors (and all of their associated connotations), then this type of design may be right up your alley.

Boho Nursery

Boho is a style that's a mix of bohemian, hippie and vintage. It's not one specific look or color scheme—it can be anything from full on boho to just some elements here and there. The easiest way to identify it is by its use of bright colors with lots of patterns; think lots of browns, oranges and blues mixed with floral prints or tribal patterns. This type of nursery style is often paired with modern touches like wall decals, which are key if you don't want your baby's room to feel too dated once he or she gets older.

If you want your baby's room to feel cozy but also sophisticated enough for guests (or yourself), then this is the style for you! Think soft neutrals like grays mixed in with warm browns and creams that work well together without looking too matchy-matchy! This can also be used as an accent color if you're afraid that too much yellow would clash against your existing decorating scheme; try adding pops of yellow throughout the house instead.

If you want to tap into your inner bohemian, there are plenty of ways to do so. Consider using a variety of patterns and textures in the space—think wooden toys, woven rugs, and suede pillows. Experiment with different colors on the walls (greens and browns are usually a safe bet!) as well as different materials like canvas or burlap. You can even add some extra flair by incorporating wallpaper into some areas—but only if that's your jam!

As far as furniture goes, think about what kind of look you're going for before purchasing anything too permanent. If you're going for more "earthy" vibes then natural wood pieces may be best suited here; however if it's more "French country" then perhaps metal chairs will suffice better than anything else would fit right into the space without feeling out of place at all times which means they'll be able to grow with child without any issues whatsoever so keep this in mind while shopping around!

French Country or Parisian Theme Nursery

Speaking of a French country theme, French country and Parisian themes are among the most popular nursery decorating ideas. They are classy, elegant and timeless. If you have decided to go for one of these themes, here are some tips on how to create a French country or Parisian nursery:

Parisian Baby Nursery

The Parisian baby nursery is a sophisticated and elegant room. The color palette is white, gray, and black with accents of gold and pops of pale pink or hot pink. The design style is classic and simple with just the right amount of whimsy.

The Parisian nursery also has a romantic feel to it with its use of soft fabrics and delicate details. The room is comfortable and inviting for both babies and adults alike. The design style is not overly complicated so it can be easily adapted to your own personal style as well as changing trends over time.

Nursery name signs are an important aspect of most nurseries, but take on added significance in a Parisian theme nursery. At Chub & Bug we’ve designed a special set of nursery name signs for a Parisian themed nursery, which include hand-drawn pink flowers against black.

French Country Baby Nursery

The French country style is a mixture of farmhouse, shabby chic, and antique french style combined into one. That said, a French Country baby nursery is a warm, cozy space that looks great with any color palette or design style.

  • Paint the walls in soft shades of lilac and green, with a touch of peach

  • Use natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and wool for curtains, bedspreads and cushions

  • Choose furniture with wooden legs instead of plastic ones for an authentic look.

  • Paint the ceiling in white so that it looks like an open sky with clouds flying across it

It’s perfect for those who love traditional French decor because it gives you permission to add things like ruffles, lace, pillows, baskets, and other feminine touches without looking out of place or overdone.

This nursery also has a lot of character because it’s full of interesting things like chandeliers, wooden toys, vintage bookshelves and lots of greenery!

Minimalist or Scandinavian Nursery

A minimalist nursery is a great choice for a new baby. It's clean and uncluttered, with a few pieces of beautiful furniture to accentuate the space. If you're looking for an elegant look that's also functional, this might be the style for you!

Minimalist nurseries are all about clean lines and simple furniture. If you want to create one, look for pieces with clean lines, like a birch crib or a sleek dresser. Look for lots of white as well—the nursery will feel even more spacious if everything is light in color or hue.

You can also add some greenery to bring in some natural elements without it feeling too much like an adult's bedroom when the baby grows up! You can use plants potted on shelves or hang them from the ceiling for an airy feeling that complements the minimalism theme.

Finally, textures are key to making this room work—your walls should be painted in warm hues like taupe or grayish brown; any bedding should be smooth and soft; blankets should be thick but not bulky (choose cashmere if you want something luxurious).

The minimalist nursery doesn't have a lot of stuff in it—and what is there has been carefully chosen. There are usually no toys or clutter lying around; instead, items like books and toys are displayed on shelves or tables so they can be easily seen by your little one.

Farmhouse or Farm Animal Nursery

Farmhouse style is all about bringing the outdoors in. Bringing some color and texture to your new little one's nursery can be challenging, but this style offers a great way to do just that.

Farmhouse-inspired nurseries are often inspired by the coastal regions of France and Italy. They usually feature lots of natural elements like wood, stone, or even grass. It's a great way to bring in some texture without going overboard on busy patterns or colors!

The best farmhouse nurseries borrow from minimalist principles and use neutral tones.

A great alternative to a traditional farmhouse nursery, is a baby farm animal nursery, which focuses on adorable baby animals.

Chub & Bug has a farm animal nursery set that can provide the perfect accent for a farm animal nursery.

Mid-Century Modern Nursery

If you've ever watched Mad Men or seen a picture of your grandmother's living room, then you know what mid-century modern style is. It's characterized by flat graphics, clean lines, retro-futurism, and an overall sense of minimalism—a look that can work with any type of furniture or decor.

The classic mid-century modern color palette is: ochre, orange, brown and mustard yellow

If you're looking for a nursery that feels sophisticated but still keeps things easy on the eyes, this would be a great choice. If you’re looking for a theme that feel futuristic, yet nostalgic all at once, then mid-century modern is for you.

Keep in mind that this style focuses on asymmetry more than symmetry, so if you want to create some balance in your room but still keep it feeling cohesive and clean, try using something like bold wallpaper to draw the eye around the room instead of across it (or vice versa).

Transitional Nursery

A transitional nursery is just like what it sounds—a nursery that will grow with your child well beyond their toddler years. Using a neutral color palette with accents or pops of color is critical for a transitional nursery as mix and matching different designs. Finally, providing elements like bookshelves and non-traditional nursery art. What we might think of as more “mature” art for your baby as he or she grows up.

This nursery is a good example of the transitional style. The mix-and-match approach to furniture is another successful element in this nursery! The dresser, crib, and glider chair all have different designs that add interest without being too chaotic. When you're working with so many different pieces it can be hard to keep everything looking cohesive; however, these items work together because they're all made out of wood and they have warm tones throughout them (like browns and tans).

This room is also filled with natural fibers like cotton sheets, rugs made from sisal (which is actually made from agave plants), wool blankets draped over chairs or over baby's shoulders when she's sleeping in her crib—these materials help ground the space even though it has an airy feel thanks to all those windows!’

Notice as well the non-traditional abstract art hanging over the crib which gives this nursery a timeless and adult feel.

Themed Nursery

Themed nurseries, whether they be themed by a color or an animal, are growing in popularity. A classic example is the jungle-themed nursery or safari theme nursery. With lots of animals and foliage, it makes sense that this would be an appealing theme choice for many parents.

But you don't have to stick with the tried-and-true themes—you can take your ideas in any direction you want! Maybe you're a big fan of The Lion King? Maybe one day your child will be named after Mufasa? Maybe there's something else about the movie that speaks to you? Whatever it is, go wild with it! You're welcome to do whatever inspires and excites you so long as it doesn't involve murder or cannibalism (we've had those).

You could also choose a theme based on something outside of movies and books: places like Disneyland; historical events; hobbies like baseball; even people like Abraham Lincoln or George Washington (if their statues inspire awe in your little one).

Modern Nursery

Modern nurseries are clean and simple. White, black, and gray are the primary colors in modern nurseries. The design of your nursery will be minimalistic—it won't have any frills or extra pieces that don't add to the overall aesthetic.

The art will tend to be minimalistic and boldly abstract.

The idea behind a modern nursery is that you keep everything as simple as possible, while still making sure that it's functional and makes sense for your child's needs. Minimalism means that you don't have too many things around; there should only be what is absolutely necessary for your baby to live comfortably in his or her new home!

Whimsical Nursery

If you’re in search of a nursery that’s full of whimsy, look no further. Whether you want an over-the-top theme or just a few fun accents, this style has something for everyone.

  • Look for fun patterns and colors: In terms of decorating, one place to start is with the bedding. Most whimsical nurseries incorporate lots of bright colors and playful patterns. Some examples include polka dots, stripes, animal prints and floral patterns with contrasting hues (think light pink on dark blue).

  • Look for whimsical furniture: Another way to add whimsy to your space is by choosing furniture that complements its color scheme. For example, if your room has bold red walls and yellow accents like rugs or artwork on the walls (like balloons), go with something soft like white cribs paired with blue bedding instead of hardwood floors or a darker shade like black linens that would clash with all those bright hues in the room!

  • Look for whimsical artwork: You can also take advantage of wall space by adding wallpaper or murals as well as framed art pieces featuring cartoon characters from shows such as Peppa Pig or  The Simpsons™ theme song lyrics set against animated scenes from episodes

Feminine Nursery

If you're going for a feminine nursery, then you should go all out!

  • Lots of pink (or purple :)

  • The walls should be painted pink. Not just a little bit, but the whole room. You can't really go wrong with this color if it's going to be primarily used as your daughter's bedroom. It can also be used in other areas such as the closet doors or frames around her artwork.

  • Lots of flowers

  • Flowers are one of the most common motifs found in nurseries because they symbolize youth and innocence. They're also pretty! So make sure that there are lots of them throughout your nursery: on wallpaper panels above cribs, framed prints hanging from walls (check out Etsy), wooden mobiles over changing tables...basically anywhere where space permits! If none exist yet, don't worry—there are plenty available online at places like Amazon Baby Shop or Target Furniture & Decor Section with no minimum order quantity required either!

Masculine Nursery

If you're looking for a room that's both stylish and gender-neutral, the masculine nursery is an excellent choice.

This design will work well with any boy or girl or gender neutral child. The masculine nursery is a room that looks like it would be more at home in the study of Sherlock Holmes than in your house; think dark neutral colors, leather armchairs, and antique globes on every wall. Lots of brown.

If you'd like a little more color, consider adding some blue or green accents such as curtains or rugs. This masculine nursery below uses brown, but then provides solid deep olive green accents to spice up the traditional masculine nursery.

Neutral Nursery

The neutral nursery is one of the most popular styles and for good reason. It’s simple, soothing, and can be used with many different color schemes.

Here are some tips for creating a neutral nursery:

Use natural materials when possible – wood, wicker baskets and rattan furniture are great options that will help to keep your room light and airy. If you prefer not to use natural materials then choose something with a smooth finish that won’t distract from other decorative elements in the room. You can do this by looking at fabrics such as linen or an acrylic fabric like Ultrasuede which has a soft feel on the skin of your baby but still maintains its durability over time.

Opt for light colors – white walls work well with gray tones throughout whilst adding pops of color here and there will make the space appear more interesting without detracting from its overall appearance.

Choose furniture that have plenty of storage–wardrobes are perfect because they provide much needed storage space in small spaces while still having plenty of style
